Quite a few baby boomers learned how to use computers from their children and then they were mostly interested in using email and maybe searching for information they needed by going to Google or MSN…

Ironically, out of my three children, two who are boomers were still at that stage not so long ago but have now progressed beyond the news, sports, videos and games online… I’m slowly roping them in to doing some money-making business from home.

Actually there probably are dozens of ways to do some kind of investing or marketing with the goal of making extra money at home and that is precisely one of the most serious obstacles to ever producing a reliable income.

We are bombarded with so many tempting opportunities every time we surf the internet… we can click away from one “must have” offer to another “Buy Now” button and then another “this price today only” leading us to pull out that credit card.

We tell ourselves we’ve got to learn and it’s OK to spend money to make money. I know I’m not the only one to have gone through that phase because a lot of marketers write about having gone through the same hopping around from one shining opportunity to another one…

The trouble with this scenario is that it’s very hard to retain any knowledge without focus and it’s also hard to focus when we don’t know exactly where to concentrate our attention and efforts.

It’s not like we were 20 or so years old having trouble choosing a major… without pressing the point too much, there is a little consideration of time here… with possible retirement in the near future, we need to choose a path, focus on finding the best information and mentors and then give it our all.

That said, it’s very important in the online field to gain knowledge by reading everything dealing with the fields you might be interested in and a lot of free stuff is made available by webmasters feeding the search engines’ constant hunger for good fresh content.

Also your lifetime experiences with businesses and people will help you in any sort of enterprise, no matter what kind of work you’ve been doing.
