I attended a first Earth Day celebration in Seattle Wa in 1970… there was a lot of excitement and enthusiasm about saving our environment that day!
We have made tremendous progress with the establishment of the the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency established in 1970, and the then the Clean Air Act was enacted and later the Clean Water Act became law, followed three years later by the Endangered Species Act.
I believe that many people were emotionally touched by the photos of our ‘blue planet’ brought back by the first astronauts in 1968 – I was!
It looked sooo small and vulnerable!
I realized that this small planet was home to millions of people who should be doing everything everything possible to survive! We have a lot more to accomplish but the whole world is more or less involved now.
