Hobbies are fun!
Most of us are trained to believe that the only way we can earn a living is to exchange our time for pay.
We’re so happy to get a job that we agree to manyconditions that interfere too much with other parts of our life, such as spending extra time with our children when there’s a special need like school events or medical visits or some other crisis.
Sometimes we are forced to spend too much time in our cars or on public transportation. We can only have time off or vacation time when it suits our employer.
If we’re lucky we get to use some creativity and are allowed some initiative and that is about as rewarding as money… that’s a good thing because
no matter how hard we work the money rewards have to be limited by
the company’s place in the economy!
If you watched your parents coming home tired from a long day’s work
when you were a kid, you might have noticed that getting a paycheck
wasn’t wasn’t a sufficient reward for their grueling efforts.
I have read that one explanation for the way people build up credit card debt
is that working “just for the money” leaves them yearning for the “things”
they see advertised in the vain hope of getting some fulfillment.
Of course you’ll say that there are more creative ways to get fulfilled but being on a 40 hour-week treadmill tends to dull such initiative and that could be the subject of another article!
More to come on ways to make a full or part time income…
