Thousands of baby boomers are hitting 65 beginning this year and going on for the next 19 years – and many are not cash-ready to retire! Many of them are turning to the Internet to look for work at home job opportunities, and there are plenty of options.

Finding a way to boost their income is almost mandatory for most retirees. With the rise in cost of living, medical needs and the economy in a downturn, boomers are thinking about  new careers that will supplement their income and keep their minds active.

Some knowledge and talents from former careers or jobs can be turned into a money-making home business on the Internet.  Unless you’re thinking that you need more social interaction, meaning an online business  may not work for you. However, if chatting online with others partly fulfills your socializing needs, it may be a good fit.

Just a couple possibilities to get you thinking are:

* eBay – there are many ways to make money on eBay, selling products you are somewhat knowledgeable about, with classified ads or even your own store and managing the whole thing online.

* Tutoring – Taking advantage of all that you’ve learned in the past and teaching  others. It can all be done online and in the comfort of your home choosing your own hours and without any special equipment, besides a computer and a broadband connection.

* Writing – Good writers can definitely find jobs on the Internet.  At first, you may have to charge less than you know you’re worth to establish a reputation. Sites such as elance.com cater to writers and those who need their services. Grant writing and technical writing are especially valued on the Internet.

• Web Content and Web Design – If you’re one of the boomers who is  fluent in ‘computereze,’ you could put healthy sums into your bank account by helping the many less experienced internet beginners.

Of course, those are limited examples but you know what your own skills are and when thinking about work at home jobs after your retirement, you probably have considered your motivation to work and how many hours you want to put in to your new career.

There may be skills you haven’t quite mastered but would love to learn and you’re in luck! If you have time to invest in research, there is unlimited information on the Internet, both free and some sites offer free or inexpensive step-by-step training in a chosen area.

Begin by entering your search words in Google and you will get lists of websites and blogs to scan through … as you familiarize yourself with the overwhelming amount of information, you will become adept at refining your searches … I did it a few years ago and you can do it too!

But beware of online ads for work at home jobs that require start-up fees – you really can get started on a shoestring budget.

As you head out for an ‘encore career choice‘,  it’s important that it be  satisfying for you as well as something that will fatten your bank account.

I had some research to do and as usual I spent a lot of time reading a whole bunch of information… it seems like anytime you get on the subject of doing business on eBay there are a few new things to learn, also rumours and discussions about eBay rules.

There are good reasons for that tension between eBay and their sellers,
since their income is derived by fees collected on our sales, eBay profits when those customers come back to buy on eBay. The sellers on the other hand have an interest in developing an outside relationship with their customers so it’s a constant ying-yang between eBay rules and sellers’ efforts to get around them.

Until March 31 2008 ebooks,reports etc. where being sold on eBay
for anywhere between 1 and 99 cents! anyone might suspect that these marketers were profiting from those sales in some ways that
didn’t bring much profits to eBay… so that eBay had good reasons
to change their rules about selling digital products.

Clever marketers immediately went into damage control mode to come up with ways to get around this latest eBay rule change:

1. Your digital products can be put on CDs or DVDs so that they can be sold as physical products in eBay auctions. You can handle it all or
partly yourself or have some or most of it done automatically at a very reasonable cost.

2. Another way to continue reaping the side benefits of eBay traffic
is to use eBay’s Classified ads to advertise your digital products and build an email list of customers.

Because these are rather lengthy subjects I will be writing a couple of detailed reports.

If you wonder why eBay matters so much… just think of the amount of traffic eBay generates! Whether you have well established websites or you just launched your first website you know that you are constantly concerned about getting or maintaining more traffic…and here you have eBay with so many people providing or buying products and services making it one of the top trafficked site in the world…

Wouldn’t it be great to piggy-back on that to build your very own niche targeted e-mail list and drive massive amounts of traffic to your website? Just as sure as the shovel sellers during the goldrush built fortunes without going through the trials and tribulations of the aspiring goldminers, there are many innovative ways to reap benefits from doing business with eBay.

Any product that can be delivered (downloaded) to a person’s computer is a digital product… if a seller emails a link to the buyer of his ebook so that by clicking on that link the buyer can download the ebook to his computer,that is a digital downloadable product.

According to the policy eBay adopted March 31 2008 digital downloadable products could no longer be sold in eBay auctions,
so that if you really want to sell digital products on eBay
you would have to use eBay classified advertising.

In order to continue selling ebooks, reports, etc. on eBay’s auction
site, they would have to be burned to a CD or DVD so that they are no longer a downloadable product.

Why sell on eBay?

The answer is simple… millions of people all over the world browse the listings on eBay, looking for anything that might relate to their lifestyle or their hobbies. Anyone can set up a website or a blog or have one set up for them but selling depends on the kind of traffic the website gets.

With an eBay store… you not only get traffic, but you get the kind of traffic that is ready to buy… you get millions of people from all over the world looking for products with credit card in hand, ready to buy…the traffic is already there.

That subtitle doesn’t begin to cover the different types of business that can be conducted on eBay, helping boomers make money with opportunities for many different kinds of selling and buying.

Many of us know about selling off some of possessions on eBay to get over a difficult time… and many went on to setting up an eBay store – buying stuff offline and selling it at auction or for a ‘buy now’ price. A tactic of many sellers is to channel the immense amount of traffic eBay gets to their real online businesses.

Boomers also know eBay as a good place to bid on books, music, clothing, sports equipment, all kinds of collector’s items and ‘antiques’

Selling ebooks on eBay was rather simple until March 31 2008 when EBay put a stop to all digital sales (the term ebook stands for electronic book). The attraction in selling ebooks was that delivery could be made by simply emailing a link to the buyer, meaning the seller could be building a mailing list by getting the name and email address of the buyers, making it possible to send follow-up emails.

Whatever motivated EBay’s change of policy, it caused quite a lot of consternation in the ranks of ebook marketers… many felt they had lost their main source of traffic generation.
That’s right, some were making little money with their low priced digital products after paying eBay fees, besides trying to conform to eBay’s rules, all so they could benefit from eBay’s enormous amount of traffic to build up their real internet business.

However, human ingenuity took over very quickly substituting other means of delivery and ebooks are being sold on eBay using methods such as transferring the ebook to a CD that can be listed as a physical product in eBay’s auction or ‘buy now’ categories, or selling the digital ebook using eBay’s classified ads.
