Are you scared of old age when you think of entering this phase of life after sixty? Don’t be. While the fear of death is a natural one, there is nothing to fear from living life as an older person.

Yet, many of us do have that fear. It’s understandable: fears that our health may not be what it was, or that we won’t have enough money, or that we won’t have enough to do are common ones. However, while some things are unpredictable, we have the power to influence many of the outcomes we fear the most.

If you’re heading towards sixty or have recently been congratulated for that big ‘six-zero’ birthday remember that much of your life is within your control, in more ways than you might realize. Address whatever fears you might have about getting older, rather than allowing them to hold you back.

Health

Loss of good health is a major worry for many people as they age. Now, it’s fair enough to be concerned. Part of the aging process is that our bodies slow down and begin to wear. We can’t prevent this from happening, in fact our body starts to slow down in our twenties!

While we can’t magically turn back the clock, a healthy and active lifestyle will greatly minimize the effects of aging and the minor health problems that happen to most of us. Some of us mignt have to face major health problems at some future time, but it’s best to avoid any useless worrying.

People

Being older can be an isolating experience for some. If you’re in a relationship, this is often a good time to re-connect if you feel you have drifted apart. If you cannot, or you’re unhappy, get out, give yourself a chance to find someone new. Being single and happy is much less lonely than being coupled and unhappy. Don’t think, either, that being older means you have to forget about sex … over half of those aged 75-85 have sex at least twice a month.

When it comes to friends and family, make an effort. When you retire and lose your routine, it’s often easy to become isolated. Find a new routine that involves regular social dates.

Identity

Many people’s biggest fear once they retire is that they will lose their identity. If you’ve worked hard for years and built your life around your job and the status it entails, then it’s hard to suddenly lose it. Retirement from full-time work can be a sudden shock for some. If you’ve been a stay-at-home parent much of your life, then children leaving home can cause the same worries.

Remember that identity does not need to come just from work. If you’re worried about being an ‘invisible’ person at home alone, then do something to prevent that from happening. Perhaps you have skills that you can put to use in a local charity? Or perhaps you could go back to education? Earlier in life, both work and education are pursued for a purpose. Now, you can do them just for fulfillment.

Money

If you’re worried about money once you retire, that’s understandable, especially in today’s uncertain economic climate. Sit down and work out your likely income and expenses, and see if there’s a gap to be made up, or if you’re just not going to have enough to do the things you want to, look at ways you can make up the difference. Perhaps you could sell your home and downsize? Or perhaps you could find a way to make some extra income? Retirement is not necessarily as sudden a change as it used to be. Why not look at starting a small business from home? We all have business ideas that we’ve just been too busy to pursue while working full-time. Retirement could be the opportunity you need to do just that.

Opportunity

Retirement is also a chance to work towards whatever other things you want to do, but never had the chance to. Have you ever heard a retired person say that they ‘don’t know how they had the time to work’? Busy people are normally happy people, so get out and do things. Japanese people like Shukan Shincho call retirement their ‘second life’. Perhaps their example is the one to follow.

Betty Jameson is just back from a Caribbean Cruise where she stopped off to do some mountain biking in the beautiful Dominican Republic. As soon as she returned home it was time to get a bicycle insurance comparison and a new bike as she had found a new hobby.

You keep on reading that affiliate marketing is an easy way to make money and when you start looking into promoting a particular product, you’re impressed with the large commissions that are being paid and you proceed to join that affiliate program with dollar signs in your eyes.

The reality of what it takes to promote this offer you’ve joined soon sets in with a four letter word … W O R K!

Yes, the job of an affiliate is to recommend, not to sell, the product – so you set up a website or blog with a suitable domain name – meaning a name that matches the product name – and write an article that includes a link designed to encourage your readers to visit the product sales page.

But you get very few clicks on the link and no follow-through! What’s the problem?

You’re told that the blog you set up to promote your product needs to be promoted in order to get visitors, but how? By writing some posts and re-writing some of those posts as articles you will submit to Article Directories and the resource box you add to each article will encourage readers to visit your blog.

Take the conclusion and add to it to fit with what you just said in the body.

I have previously written about the advantages of using PLR (Private Label Rights) there’s no question that PLR articles are a big help especially since they can be bought at reasonable prices in so many different markets, but of course to get the maximum benefit you do need to rewrite the articles or spin them.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH)An Indianapolis woman posted her resume online. Then she received the call that millions of unemployed Americans wait on each day, a job offer.

The man on the other line offers the 28-year-old woman a cushy job from the confines of her home. Her task seemed easy; Wait for FEDEX to bring her money orders, cash them, and send part of the money to another location.

To make a long story short, Investigators for Indianapolis Police Metropolitan Dptmt confiscated the evidence the young woman held and detectives are trying to track down a man listed as the sender of the money orders.

“Legitimate job opportunities will not advertise you will make a lot of money in a short amount of time,” said Nick Ostergaard, a Spokesperson for the Better Business Bureau.

Ostergaard goes on to say that employers from legitimate stay at home companies are very transparent. Many of those companies have an interview process, and they don’t offer a job just based on an email or an online resume.

Is Your Road to Success Paved with Fears of Defeat?

Some young people know what career they want to pursue long before they ever reach college age. If that is genuinely their choice and not something imposed by their parents, they are really lucky. They can begin the training of their choice as soon as they complete high school, and they probably will be successful in achieving their goals because their motivation comes from within.

However, it’s not as simple for many others who don’t have the right mindset for success! Even when they arrive at a decision about a career choice or a the kind of business they would like to develop, self-doubt and discouraging thoughts may cloud their thinking.

1. How to Overcome Discouraging Beliefs.

Is it possible that focusing too much on goals for the future is keeping us from taking care of ourselves today? While setting goals is important, we need to enjoy the steps we are taking right now and that includes enjoying simple pleasures like shopping for the ingredients to cook a good meal and tossing a ball around with some friends.

2. Getting the Training We Need to Be Successful

Good nutrition, physical fitness and caring human interaction contribute to good mental functioning and empowers us to do the work we need to do.

It’s important to remember that being successful includes enjoying our daily life and growing as a human being.

A concert-goer once said to a famous composer:’Maestro I would give my life to play like you do’ and his answer was ‘I did Madam,I did! In truth he had probably enjoyed living the life of his choice, playing the music he loved … and bringing pleasure to the world. How fulfilling is that!

3. Living a Good Life While Working Toward Our Goals

It’s good to constantly remember the importance of being a well-rounded individual while we’re working toward our goals. The professional goals are one important part of our life not a destination we arrive at after a long journey. The journey is our life and we need to live it consciously, paying attention to the flowers along the path!

4. Life After Sixty and Planning a New Career

The first part of this article applies to young people starting out on their path to becoming productive member of society. But there is another movement going on … Seniors engaging in a new career and learning new skills!

How does it feel to start all over again? They’re getting acquainted with social media … they’re challenged by new-fangled systems … I know because I’m doing it myself!

I have written a few posts about working from home to supplement a retirement income and I plan to focus on home business information in the coming weeks.

Keywords are a Major Player in the Arena of Making Money

When you choose a niche and set up a website, you want to use every means available to generate profit. Often overlooked, keywords are a major player in the arena of making money.

The concept of using keywords is a simple one. Those are words that identify your website and bring it to the attention of search engines. Without the right keywords, your batting average for getting customers and sales will be pretty dismal.

Broad Keywords vs. long-tail keywords.

Many online entrepreneurs and would be entrepreneurs grasp that keywords are vitally important for traffic, but what they often don’t get is that broad keywords and long tail keywords can be used to bring in the money.

How are these different from just using any keywords? Broad keywords are words that don’t narrow down the topic – think short, one word versus phrases – for example, car versus buying a Honda Odyssey, or tree versus how to plant an Oak tree.

When you look up long tail keywords, you might see that there aren’t as many results for those words as there are for broad keywords. But there are more of those types of phrases, so the actual traffic volume can exceed what you’d get with a broad search ranking.

You want to bring in people who know what they want. Someone who types in the word cars may be looking for the animated cartoon called cars, the history of cars, used cars, new cars, and more.

People type in long tail phrases are telling you what it is they want. For instance, here’s a good one – “How to buy cars without getting ripped off.” You could sell someone a guide on buying a new car because you’d know exactly what their needs are compared to someone just typing in ‘cars.’

If you were in the business of selling self-help products for depression, you could use depression as a broad keyword, but to get more specific you’d use long tail keywords such as ‘post partum depression symptoms’ or ‘signs of depression in men.’

Not only will you pull in people searching for information on depression in general by using broad keywords, but you’ll also get people searching for depression as it pertains to their situation.

When you do a search to find broad keywords, you’ll see that there are a lot of searches per month for that word or words. But the more focused your keywords, the better your site performs when the search engine spiders come crawling. You want the people who find your site to be the ones that are looking for what you have to offer.

Apprentice Marketer Gazette Gets Reviewed by Blog Tyrant!

One of my last 2010 posts was about getting your business in shape. That was after going through an extensive evaluation enabled by six video lessons offered by Melissa Ingold, Sweetie Marketing … (details in that post).

I had concluded that I needed to find better ways to make money with the work I was putting into this blog. For the past 2 years I was recommending helpful resources, mostly free and a few earning an affililiate commission, with very little financial returns.

I was coming to the conclusion that I needed to get over my reluctance to advertising on my blog, when I saw Blog Tyrant’s offer to do Blog Reviews for any of his subscribers who applied, I added my blog to his list … #24 and the first randomly picked one after only a couple of weeks! There are some good tips and suggestions to learn from in the comments as well as the video.

Who is the Blog Tyrant?

Year 2011:Making My Blog More Profitable

My plan for this blog in early 2009 was to share what I had learned during the many months I was gathering information with a special emphasis on baby boomers … any revenue I expected to get would come from referrals to products I recommended in my free email course or in some blogposts … not through a bunch of advertisements on the blog …

Here is an excerpt of an article titled ‘How does an Aspiring Internet Marketer get Started‘ I wrote a few weeks ago:

“There is a lot of free information on the internet and it’s very tempting to spend hours everyday reading and gathering all the information you think you might need to start some form of internet marketing business.

Wandering from blog to website to blog you could be spending a lot of time somehow believing that you will find all the information you need to start your own business and of course this might happen if you know what you’re shopping for!

When you go shopping for ingredients for a meal you start with a list in hand for the specific ingredients you know you are missing so when you explore the internet for information it would make sense to be looking for answers to questions you already have!

However, if you don’t have a definite plan, you’re going to run into business models you had not even thought about so you get a glimmer of another way you could be doing business and begin to follow that path until some other tempting offer catches your eye!

Then you have the problem of copying, printing and filing all that information … I know what that’s like because I did it all and I ended up more confused in spite of the piles of so-called information I was accumulating and all my newsletter subscriptions.

I got some binders, and spent many hours organizing and filing so that even if I was not actually in business yet I had a file clerk … ME! At the end of a day spent in that file clerk role I would sometimes experience the sense of accomplishment a company employee gets after a job well done but only for a moment – no paycheck!”

To get back to Jackie Lee‘s article, she says:

“Do you know what work you need to be doing today, and tomorrow and the next day?

Creating a profitable business comes down to, first and foremost, clarity.

You have to be clear about what you’re doing, what your business model is.

If you aren’t clear you’re going to end up spinning your wheels.Taking ineffective action. Wasting time chasing money around.”

OK! I don’t want to be wasting time chasing money around … but I do want to generate more income and I prefer to not have a bunch of ads greeting my visitors.

So I’ve made some decisions and here’s what I need to begin with:

1. Offer some useful and desirable services providing me some affiliate commissions

2. Pursue and maintain connections with other people online that provide value to my clients and me.

3. Write helpful blog posts and articles that will benefit readers interested in a home business.

4. Continue to offer free downloads with valuable information.

This list will probably be growing in the coming days as my plans take shape.
